GUY ROUELLE

Guy Rouelle is an assistant coach at LŌKAHI. He achieved the rank of brown belt in 2023 and specializes in MMA-style grappling instruction. Guy has been teaching Jiu-Jitsu and Army Combative since 2018.

Guy’s interest in martial arts stems from his father’s competitive boxing experience and growing up watching him train and prepare for fights. When Guy turned 15 and was deemed old enough to train, boxing was his first love; however, he quickly realized the power grapplers and Jiu-Jitsu practitioners hold in fights as the UFC gained popularity. As a result, Guy began saving all the money he could, returning bottles, caring for horses, and suckering friends with driver's licenses to commute three hours to Vermont’s only Jiu-Jitsu gym. Guy’s love for Jiu-Jitsu began immediately upon stepping on the mats.

Guy remains an active Jiu-Jitsu competitor but had previously focused on MMA. Guy achieved a 2-1 Amateur MMA record, with both wins coming by submission. Following a neck injury while in the Army, Guy shifted his focus to Jiu-Jitsu, where he realized his MMA-based perspective brought a lot of value to Jiu-Jitsu practitioners, helping Guy recognize a newfound love and passion for teaching. Guy believes training should be challenging and create opportunities for physical, mental, and technical growth for all students, regardless of their knowledge level.

Outside the gym, Guy is an avid academic pursuing further education in International Studies. He delves into books on geopolitics, indulges in the occasional video game, and cherishes quality time with his Fiancé, Samantha, and his cat, Kowka. A lesser-known fact about Guy is his ability to discuss the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe and comics at a level that would impress a professional historian.
